As Daddy drove through the mountains, I just shut my eyes! Mommy kept making strange squeaky noises. I think she was scared that we were so high up on a narrow winding road. Sometimes a kitty just doesn’t want to know. Stuart just crawled under the sofa and hid. At least I was trying to maintain some cool. I didn’t know where we were going. I can only understand a few human words. You know, the important ones like food, outside, bird, dog, home, etc. My mom has started calling me LiLi. Ugh! She has given me a “pet name.” I refuse to acknowledge this insult to my beautiful name, Lyra. After what seemed like 7 weeks in cat days, they let me out into this glorious field of grass. Even though my parents tethered me to that stake, I practiced my hunting skills on the rabbits that were taunting me with their fluffy tails and big ears just out of my reach. The visit to the Colorado grasslands aka Colorado River State Park was brief but I learned so much about rabbits. We were back on the road. They didn’t let me out for long time. Oh! but when my parents did, it was worth the wait. I jumped out of our house into red dirt! My favorite kind! Meooow!!! After a good dirt bath, I realized that I didn’t hear any dogs. What is this place?! Is this the place I dreamed about in all my months of life? Then I saw it! It was quick and slender. It was going to be my lunch! I stalked it. Be very still. Wait for it! It’s coming closer. Pounce! I missed. Oh, lizard you will be mine! Some day! This place was my heaven. I’m in the Jeep! Yay! I love riding in the Jeep. Daddy and Mommy took me down this trail and we splashed through water. There was so much to see that I had to hang out the window. I tried climbing out onto the mirror but Mommy caught me. “I just wanted to see better,” I protested. She wouldn’t let me. Stuart, the old boy, liked Utah, too. He usually eats and sleeps and never wants to play. I saw him chase a beetle and run! This was a magical place!
